Rules for the Ouse Valley Badminton League

1. The league to be run in divisions, the number of teams competing in each left to the discretion of the committee. A list of registered players must be sent to the league secretary at the commencement of the season for clubs with more than one team. This list may be added to at any time.

2. Teams in each division shall play every other team in that division twice during the season, one match at home and one away. If there are two teams in a division from the same club, then these matches are to be played by 31st January.

3. A mixed match will consist of 9 doubles. The players must be nominated before the commencement of the match but they need not be placed in order of strength. Each match to consist of the best of three rubbers. NO SETTING AT 13.

3a. Ladies and Mens matches will consist of 6 doubles. The players must be nominated before commencement of the match and they MUST be placed in order of strength. Each match to consist the best of three rubbers. NO SETTING AT 13.

4. The winning team shall score one point per rubber.

5. Matches shall commence no later than 7pm unless prior notification is given. Any team not ready to commence within 15 minutes of the agreed time is liable to forfeit the game/games.

6.The match results to be forwarded to the league secretary WITHIN SEVEN DAYS OF THE MATCH by the home team. Failure to do this could result in points being awarded to the away team, and the home team fined.

7. In the case of clubs entering more than one team, no player can play down from the registered team but players can play up twice. If played more than twice for any one team they can no longer play for a lower team. A player is entitled to play for more than one club providing it does not involve playing in more than one section of the same competition. i.e. men's, ladies, or mixed. In the event of a player moving clubs notice should be given and agreement left to the committee.

8. Matches may NOT be cancelled without 72 hours notice EXCEPT for unavoidable reasons i.e. loss of hall, bad weather (fog, ice, or snow). If matches are cancelled without consent the match will be awarded to the team showing proof of willingness to abide by the fixture list. All matches to be played by 21st April.

9. All new teams joining the league must start in the lower division.

10 . Shuttles - Clubs must use any N.B.A recognised shuttle (preferably cork based) but these must be in good condition.

11. Any disputes, complaints etc must be put in writing to the committee for their consideration and must be reported within seven days of the incident.

12. The committee shall consist of a chairman, joint secretary/treasurer, Three other elected members and a press officer.

13. Each club has a maximum of two votes.

14. Promotion/Demotion - 1 up. 1 down. - New clubs to start in the lowest division unless reformation is required.
